Focus

“O3 does not mean three semitones. It means three keys are left out between the two notes you press.”

Decode

  • 01The physical action: Press – Omit – Press – Omit – Press.
  • 02The codes O0 through O4 and what each one leaves out.
  • 03Why O3 means three omitted keys but four semitones of distance.

Omission Formula

Semitone distance = omitted keys + 1

  • O3 → 3 omitted keys → 4 semitones.
  • Count what you leave out, not what you travel.

Practise Now

  1. 01Play O1, O2, O3 and O4 from two different root notes.
  2. 02State the semitone distance out loud for each one before playing.

What you should be able to do

You can apply O-codes accurately and convert between omitted keys and semitone distance.
